Best Blades for Butterfly Tenergy Rubbers

Butterfly Tenergy is one of the most popular high performance rubbers on the market, so it makes sense to pair it with a great blade to get the most out of it. But which blades work well with Tenergy? In this article, I’ll be going through some top blades to pair with the different versions of Butterfly Tenergy so you can narrow down your selection.

Best Blades for Tenergy 05

Butterfly Tenergy 05 is excellent for looping and suits offensive players who are positioned close-to-mid distance from the table. It’s a fast rubber, but not the fastest on the market.

Since Tenergy 05 makes the ball dwell for a long time on the paddle in order to generate more spin, pairing it with a soft and flexible blade will make the spin incredible, but also means that you won’t get much power. Hence, many players like to pair Tenergy 05 with a harder or stiffer blade to speed it up.

That’s why Tenergy 05 works well with 7-ply carbon and wood blades (5+2 ply). I’d be wary of using something very soft and flexible like a 5-ply all-wood blade as this will make the rubber too spin-orientated at the expense of other characteristics.

Best Blades for Tenergy 05:

  • Butterfly Timo Boll ALC
  • Butterfly Zhang Jike Super ZLC

Butterfly Timo Boll ALC

This blade is great if you’re looking for something which will provide a bit more power but still maintain excellent spin and control for looping. It is moderately stiff so won’t dull the vibrations too much, but it will feel more stable compared to an all-wood blade.

  • 2-ply Arylate Carbon, 5-ply wood
  • Thickness: 5.7 mm
  • Weight: 85 g
  • Hardness: Medium-Hard
  • Stiffness: Moderate
  • Reaction Score: 11.8
  • Vibration Score: 10.3

Butterfly Zhang Jike Super ZLC

If you’re looking for a light-weight fast-attacking blade to pair with Tenergy 05 then this is a great option. It’s pretty stiff so won’t offer much in the way of feeling, but it will offer plenty of power and speed making it excellent for advanced offensive players.

  • 2-ply ZL-Fiber, 5-ply wood
  • Thickness: 5.6 mm
  • Weight: 85 g
  • Hardness: Medium-Hard
  • Stiffness: Moderate-Stiff
  • Reaction Score: 12.3
  • Vibration Score: 11.1

Best Blades for Tenergy 19

Tenergy 19 is great for offensive players who prioritise spin and like to be positioned close-mid distance from the table. Most players find that it is fairly easy to control, particularly compared to Tenergy 64 and Tenergy 25.

Tenergy 19 works well with carbon and wood blades with a 7-ply composition as this helps to boost the speed. Using a very soft and flexible blade is generally not the best approach as the rubber already has a softer feel with increased dwell time particularly compared to other Tenergy rubbers. However, a moderately soft/ flexible blade can be used if spin and control are your main focuses.

Best Blades for Tenergy 19:

  • Butterfly Innerforce Layer ZLC
  • Butterfly Kenta Matsudaira ALC

Butterfly Innerforce Layer ZLC

If you’re looking to maximise the spin and control levels that Tenergy 19 offers then using an Innerforce Layer ZLC is a great option. It’s moderately soft and flexible so won’t feel too unstable, but is useful if you prioritise control and feeling from your blade. It’s not very fast though, so may not be suitable for players who want a more powerful combination.

  • 2-ply ZL Carbon, 5-Ply Wood
  • Thickness: 5.7 mm
  • Weight: 87 g
  • Hardness: Medium-Soft
  • Stiffness: Moderate-Flexible
  • Reaction Score: 10.5
  • Vibration Score: 9.5

Butterfly Kenta Matsudaira ALC

The Butterfly Kenta Matsudaira ALC blade is another good option if you want to maximise the spin and control properties that Tenergy 19 offers. It’s a bit harder than the previous blade on the list so feels more stable and powerful whilst maintaining a good level of feeling and control.

  • 2-Ply Acrylate Carbon, 3-Ply Wood
  • Thickness: 5.8 mm
  • Weight: 86 g
  • Hardness: Medium-Hard
  • Stiffness: Moderate-Flexible
  • Reaction Score: 11.8
  • Vibration Score: 10.3

Best Blades for Tenergy 25

Tenergy 25 is a good counter-attacking rubber but it can be a little bit harder to control compared to most other rubbers in the Tenergy line-up. Hence, pairing it with a moderately hard and flexible blade is a good option as it helps to increase the control and make it a bit more spinny. On the other hand, if you want to maximise speed, then choosing a composite blade will increase the stiffness and hardness to give you more power.

Best Blades for Tenergy 25:

  • Butterfly Innerforce Layer ALC
  • Butterfly Viscaria ALC

Butterfly Innerforce Layer ALC

This offensive blade has a reasonably soft touch making it easy to control and allows the player to get the most out of Tenergy 25 by maximising precision.

  • 2-Ply Acrylate Carbon, 5-Ply Wood
  • Thickness: 6.0 mm
  • Weight: 90g
  • Hardness: Moderate
  • Stiffness: Moderate
  • Reaction Score: 10.7
  • Vibration Score: 9.4

Butterfly ALC Viscaria

If you’re looking for something a tiny bit faster then it’s worth considering Butterfly’s Super ALC Viscaria. It again helps to keep the rubber under control but feels a bit more powerful.

  • 2-Ply Acrylate Carbon, 5-Ply Wood
  • Thickness: 5.7 mm
  • Weight: 91 g
  • Hardness: Moderate-Hard
  • Stiffness: Moderate
  • Reaction Score: 12.1
  • Vibration Score: 11.8

Best Blades for Tenergy 64

If you are using Tenergy 64 then the chances are that you value power and speed and position yourself mid-long distance from the table. It can be a bit tough to control, so choosing a moderately hard and stiff blade is a good bet if you want to preserve the power but maintain more control.

Pairing it with a very hard and stiff blade is great for power, but makes it tricky to use. On the other hand, choosing a very soft and flexible blade means you won’t get the most out of the rubber. Hence, going for a 7-ply composite blade is a good choice over a 5-ply or all-wood blade.

Best Blades for Tenergy 64:

  • Butterfly Timo Boll ALC
  • Butterfly Zhang Jike ZLC

Butterfly Timo Boll ALC

This blade pairs well with Tenergy 64 due to it’s medium hardness and stiffness which means it has a lot of power, but isn’t a nightmare to control. It’s well suited to players who don’t want to feel the vibrations too much when smashing and blocking.

  • 2-ply Arylate Carbon, 5-ply wood
  • Thickness: 5.7 mm
  • Weight: 85 g
  • Hardness: Medium-Hard
  • Stiffness: Moderate
  • Reaction Score: 11.8
  • Vibration Score: 10.3

Butterfly Zhang Jike ZLC

This blade is very stiff and pretty hard meaning it offers plenty of power. If speed is your top priority then pairing the Zhang Jike ZLC blade with Tenergy 64 is a good option. Be mindful that it is only suitable for advanced players though as it’s not easy to control otherwise.

  • 2-Ply ZL-Carbon, 5-Ply Wood
  • Thickness: 5.6 mm
  • Weight: 85 g
  • Hardness: Medium-Hard
  • Stiffness: High
  • Reaction Score: 11.7
  • Vibration Score: 10.8

Best Blades for Tenergy 80

Tenergy 80 is probably universally the easiest to control rubber in the Butterfly Tenergy range. In terms of the blade pairing, it really depends if you want to maximise speed, spin, or control. Most players tend to pair it with a composite 7-ply blade to enhance the rubber’s performance.
